Satyajit Mayor completed his education in MSc from IIT, Mumbai and PhD in Life Sciences from Rockefeller University, New York. Today, he is the Dean and Professor in the area of cellular organisation and signalling at NCBS, Bangalore.
At NCBS, he has taken a multi-disciplinary approach combining cell biology with physics and chemistry to study the organization and endocytic trafficking of trans-membrane and lipid-anchored proteins in membranes of living cells. The trajectory of this work has led him to explore the fine structure of the plasma membrane on the one hand and, on the other hand, to utilize tools of molecular genetics for exploring the implications of these findings in the construction of endocytic pathways in cells.
For interest to Architects, Prof.Mayor discusses architecture of living cells and his study of regulated cell surface organization and membrane dynamics.
