Dean Gabriel D’Cruz graduated from Sir J J College of Architecture in 1983. He joined architect Gerard Da Cunha as an assistant in Goa in 1985. Enamoured by the soft and human scale of Goa's Architecture and lifestyle, he decided to stay. He became a partner in a firm called Natural Architecture, in 1986, working on cost effective housing in a very Laurie Baker approach using waste building materials and innovative design. In 1994 he expanded his base of design work, taking on small hotels, large houses and institutional work as principal architect of Dean D'Cruz & Associates.
Dean co-founded Mozaic Design Combine in 2001, of which he is a Partner and Principal Architect. The design firm based in Goa, is involved in Urban Intervention, Architecture, Conservation, Product and Graphic Design. Mozaic’s architectural vocabulary stems from an approach to promote cost effective design which uses local materials, traditional methods of construction and aims at being ecologically sound.
Dean has also been a visiting faculty at Goa College of Architecture since 1987.
